About HFTC

The Head for the Cure Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding in the fight against brain cancer.
Dedicated to the memory of Chris Anthony, the flagship event — Head for the Cure 5K - Metro KC — has grown from a small 5K to one of the largest in the Kansas City area. In 2003, the inaugural event with about 300 participants raised approximately $10,000. In just eight short years, Head for the Cure 5K - Metro KC surpassed 4,000 registered participants and raised more than $300,000.
Head for the Cure launched 5K events in three other cities (Lawrence, Kans., Columbia, Mo., and Frisco, Tex.) and continues to expand.
The 5K events are not only successful fundraisers, but unique tributes to those who are fighting brain cancer and those who have lost their battles. Their memories carry on through the teams that formed around them, and the teams return year after year to celebrate their legacies.
In 2004, funds raised by Head for the Cure enabled the seed money to launch the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC) at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
Led by MD Anderson, the BTTC is a network of NCI-accredited medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors.
Head for the Cure is committed to providing ongoing financial support to the BTTC.
