Eldon Puett

Eldon Puett, age 58, beloved by so many, passed away November 9, 2007, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born September 2, 1949, in Topeka, KS, to Marvin and Elizabeth Puett, he attended Rochester Grade School and graduated in 1967 from Seaman High School. In 1972, he graduated from the University of Kansas with an Electrical Engineering degree. An impassioned KU supporter, he enjoyed being the Jayhawk Mascot in 1970 and helped introduce “Baby Jay” in 1971.

Eldon married college sweetheart, Connie, on June 2, 1973, in Topeka, KS. During 34 years of marriage, they enjoyed raising their two children, water skiing at Table Rock Lake, visiting grandchildren, family and friends, being involved at church, and cheering the Jayhawks. Until his passing, he rarely missed attending or viewing KU games.

Eldon was a dedicated Santa Fe Railroad employee for 25 years and of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for an additional 10 years. He held several management positions during those years. He began his career in Topeka and later held positions in Chicago; Fort Madison, IA; Beaumont, TX; Los Angeles; Topeka and Kansas City, KS. Eldon was personable and made many friends – not only in the cities where he headquartered but also in the myriad of cities across the entire railroad network.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Eldon is survived by his loving wife, Connie; two children, son Jason and wife Elle of Eden Prairie, MN, and daughter Lindsay Peattie and husband Seth of Kansas City, MO; two grandchildren, Spencer and Annabelle; and his parents, Marvin and Elizabeth Puett. He is also survived by his brother Ron and wife, Jeanna of Ocean Springs, MS; sister, Kim Puett of Topeka, KS; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Of course, Eldon leaves behind a multitude of rich friendships from high school, college, BNSF, church, and his neighborhood.

All of us miss him dearly but we rejoice knowing that his pain has ended and he is now enjoying eternity in heaven with the Lord Jesus. He can once again enjoy his beloved activities including water skiing, scuba diving and guitar playing. Hit it, Dad!
