Shelia Dimico

Shelia was diagnosed back in 1994 with a brain tumor. At the time she didn’t have any symptoms she just wanted to get checked because her Mom passed away from a tumor. She had surgery to remove most of the tumor and then radiation treatment. For a while the tumor didn’t grow and she enjoyed life. Then she began to have seizures and found out the tumor had grown. She started the pill form of chemo. At this point she had to retire from a job she loved and focus on her health. She battled the tumor by taking various chemo drugs that would keep the tumor from growing anymore. It worked. She had a year of no growth but when it started to grow again it was aggressive. She had more seizures that paralyzed her left side. She was unable to drive and walk. She tried another new chemo treatment through IV and that worked for about six months. Her health was declining and we found out in December the treatment was no longer working and that there was no longer any viable treatment for her. They gave her 3 months to live. Shelia fought for 20 years. She beat all the odds. I was so grateful for the compassionate doctors and staff at UW Medical Center. My Mom was able to see her family and friends before she passed away in February. She was the toughest woman I know and she will be missed.
