The Head for the Cure 5k Run & Walk is a celebration of lives and legacies. Simply put – we are fighting to Defeat Brain Cancer Step by Step.
Support for the cause has been phenomenal with strong growth year after year. In 2009, the Head for the Cure 5k Run & Walk in Metro KC enjoyed a 46 percent increase in the number of runners and walkers.
Support Grows
Including volunteers, sponsors, friends of participants and financial donors, more than 4,000 attended the August event. In addition, the Head for the Cure 5k Run & Walk was introduced in Lawrence, KS, with 300 participating in the inaugural event. Overall 2009 donations exceeded $225,000.

On February 10, 2003, our friend and my brother, Chris Anthony, lost his two-and-a-half year battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor. He outlived his prognosis by more than a year through sheer determination, faith and love for and from his family and friends. His life and his character touched all who knew him.
More Research Is Needed
Chris’ struggle also brought to light the vast research needs of this devastating disease. Brain cancer is a debilitating illness. The cure rate is low, the incidence is on the rise and the research is under-funded. Each year, nearly 200,000 Americans are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor.
The Head for the Cure 5k benefits the Chris Anthony Memorial Brain Tumor Research Fund at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Brain Tumor Trials Collaboration (BTTC), and Kansas City-based Solace House, a center for grieving children and their families.
Please inquire about a Head for the Cure sponsorship, and join other companies that have committed to supporting brain tumor research. Sponsorships are available in a wide range of participation levels.
