Head for the Cure 5K - Lawrence sets new records!

A record 530 registered participants helped raise more than $33,000 for brain cancer research on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011.

In only its third year, Head for the Cure 5K – Lawrence more than doubled in participation and increased funds raised four-fold!

It was a beautiful morning to run or walk and celebrate the lives and legacies of those with brain cancer.

Twenty-one teams were out in force to honor someone affected by a brain tumor. More than 70 enthusiastic volunteers lent a helping hand. And generous sponsorship from the Lawrence community including Lawrence Memorial Hospital's Cardiovascular Specialists and Lawrence Vein Center, along with Blue Bee Photography, also helped make the event possible.

Congratulation to the overall winners – Tim Testa (15:57) and Jodie Cochrane (21:04) – and to everyone who participated. Please make sure to check out the complete results and view and download photos from the event.

One extraordinary person – Linda Hofstad – was recognized with a Keeping the Faith award. Linda was diagnosed with brain cancer in August 2010. Over the course of a year, she endured multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and in her spare time, also raised more than $13,000 for brain cancer research.

Linda truly embodies the spirit of what Keeping the Faith is all about, not allowing a terrible disease get in the way of living her life. It is people like Linda for whom Head for the Cure was created and the reason we keep pushing to grow our cause every year — to raise awareness and raise funds in the fight against brain cancer. You can still contribute as we continue to accept donations.

We hope you will join us next fall for the 4th annual Head for the Cure 5K – Lawrence.
