Timing Chips

As a nonprofit with the goal of raising money for our cause, we really need to make sure we get all the timing chips back so we don't have to pay for the lost ones. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO RETURN YOUR TIMING CHIPS SO WE CAN KEEP OUR COSTS DOWN AND RAISE MORE MONEY FOR BRAIN CANCER RESEARCH!
Race Day Parking
Please try to arrive early for the best parking experience. You may park in the Community Building parking lot (11th Street, between Massachusetts & Vermont Streets on the west side of the building), behind Garry Gribbles Running Sports (on Vermont Street between 8th & 9th Streets) or the parking garage between 9th & 10th Streets on New Hampshire (parking is free on the top floor).
Please remember that the course will be closed to traffic once the event is underway, so plan to arrive early to avoid congestion.
Race Day Schedule
7:00 a.m. Race Day Registration and Check In
8:00 a.m. Head for the Cure 5K – Lawrence Starts
9:00 a.m. Head for the Cure Kids’ Run (50-yard dash in the grass)
9:30 a.m. Awards Ceremony
IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON RUNNING OR WALKING THE COURSE, please line up behind the Starting Line before the event starts at 8 a.m. - runners at the front; walkers and stroller-pushers to the back. There will be some special announcements and the singing of the National Anthem. and we will have Megan Mercer as our honorary starter this year. Megan is the captain of Team Big John, and she had been integral to the success of our growth this year in Lawrence by spearheading most of hte local sponsorships and grass roots marketing efforts. Megan, who is a nurse at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, lost her uncle, John Mercer, to brain cancer last year. We are so appreciative of Megan's support of Head for the Cure.
IF YOUR CHILDREN ARE PLANNING PARTICIPATING IN THE KIDS' RUN, please have them over on the grassy area directly to the east of the gazebo around 9:15 a.m. for a dash in the grass. This run is designed for the younger set who may be too young to complete a 5K. All participants will receive a Head for the Cure ribbon.
And don't forget to stick around for the Awards Ceremony at 9:30. Before we recognize the top runners, we take time to honor the very important people for whom Head for the Cure exists - those currently in their own battles with brain cancer. The struggles and triumphs of our Keeping the Faith award recipients are even more poignant when shared with everyone race day as we pay tribute to what they have survived and what lies ahead for them. Please join us for this moving and inspirational presentation!
