NC TRIANGLE TEAM SPOTLIGHT – TEAM FLY NAVY

Each year, teams participate in our annual Head for the Cure 5K – NC Triangle.  Team Fly Navy is participating in honor of Richard J. Field, Jr. courageous battle with brain cancer. By participating in this event, you are helping fund research and programs to support the brain tumor community.  Learn more about team Fly Navy below!

Our Team, ‘Fly Navy’ is participating in the Head for the Cure Run in honor of Richard J. Field, Jr. our father. He was diagnosed with a  Glioblastoma Multiforme ( GBM) brain tumor in 2001 at age 55. He had served proudly
in the United States Navy for 20 years, and had moved on to  another career with Northern Telecom for over 15 years.

When he was first diagnosed with the GBM the first doctors who treated him did not give us much hope, perhaps a few months.  But… by the grace of God and the gifted doctors at Duke Brain Tumor Center he survived as a walking miracle for 2 1/2 years.  There were many wonderful families that we met at the Duke Brain Tumor Center – all dealing with the same problems. There were many wonderful stories of long term survivors of 5 -10 years out from surgery, and longer.  Having the support of these other families and the wonderful Medical teams,
but most of all the support, love and prayers of family and

friends can really make a difference along this difficult journey. We have hope for the cure, and  we are thankful for all of you and your dedication in working towards the cure. .

You never have feel you are on this journey alone,  Keep the Faith, and by the Grace of God and the great new discovery in medicine  —  Hope lives!
