Candace

Wattson

Candace and her two oldest daughters (Hayley and Kelsey) were in a car accident in 2002, which prompted a CT scan. From this CT scan, the doctors found that she had a brain tumor and she was then diagnosed with oligoastrocytoma (brain cancer) which was when she was told she had about five years to live. Since her diagnosis, she has had brain surgery to remove the tumor and 4 years ago she finished her final round of chemo. During the past 4 years, her tumor has stayed the same with no change – that was until just a few weeks ago. Candace started experiencing some terrible headaches, which she was explaining away as weather-change related or due to cranial pressure. After a trip to the ER, it was determined that the tumor has started growing again. In early April, Candace and her husband met with her doctors in Kansas City, where it was decided they would wait to start treatment. Her oncologist has seen many types of cancer, he is is familiar with this type of tumor and he assumes it isn’t done growing yet. Once he feels that the growth has slowed, he wants to remove what they can and then start chemo.
